Phenology

The word "Phenology" comes from the Greek words "phaino" meaning to appear and "logos" meaning to study. It is the study of the timing of recurring biological events and the relationship between influencing factors on these events, such as climate and seasons. Phenology is an excellent tool for learning about nature and gardening. Observing phenology and collecting an analyzing phenological data provide hands-on learning and opportunities for cross-subject learning. There are collaborative programs and on-line resources available through the National Phenology Network and the University of New Hampshire Cooperative Extension.
